"Jesus ... took a little child and put it by his side and said to them, 'Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me; for the least among all of you is the greatest.'" Luke 9: 46-48
Orientation classes for baptized children in the second grade to participate in the Lord's Supper are held each February. Children and their parents or guardians are required to complete the four-week classes for the children to receive their personalized engraved Bibles. Presentation of the Bibles and Welcome to the Lord's Table occurs during worship on the first Sunday of March.
The orientation classes are taught by our church elders as a response to the church's nurturing obligation of the baptismal covenant. Each Sunday afternoon the children and their parents or guardians gather for an opening introduction to study one of the important components of our community worship and then break into small groups for activities related to these topics. Following are the weekly themes:
God's Family Gathers to Worship; Guiding Children Through Worship
God's Family Welcomes New Members Through Baptism; Illustrating Children's Roles as Church Family Members
God's Family Remembers Jesus; Teaching Children the Significance of Remembering
God's Family Celebrates Together and Gives Thanks; Welcoming Children to the Lord's Table
